A position tells you where a ship is. Her own instruments tell you how she is being run — and we turn that into what it costs, what is about to break, and what the regulator will ask for. Honest by design: a number we cannot measure, we withhold.

We show a vessel the way it actually is never a guess, and never a last-known value dressed up as live. When a feed goes quiet the instrument blanks to N/A, and a missing sensor greys out. A monitor that quietly shows dead data is worse than none, so we would rather show nothing than something false.

One read-only box joins the ships existing NMEA 0183 and AIS network and only listens; it never writes to a navigation system. It decodes every talker, from every vendor, into clean named values, downsamples on board, and streams compact snapshots ashore. Lose the satellite link and it buffers for days, draining in order on reconnect so the picture stays whole, and the bridge is on shore: live, honest, and complete.

Live monitoring

Every vessel’s real instruments ashore, refreshed every few seconds — heading, engines, rudder, depth, autopilot, plus up to four live ECDIS and radar screens. When a feed goes quiet it blanks to N/A, never a stale number dressed up as live.

Voyage playback

Scrub any past passage on a nautical chart with the instruments, weather and bridge screen from that exact minute, at up to 4× speed. Reconstruct a near-miss or a charter dispute in seconds — no onboard VDR retrieval. A period she did not report is drawn as a break in the line, not as track she is assumed to have sailed.

Position integrity

Jamming and spoofing are routine where fleets trade, so every fix is cross-checked against the speed log and the gyro — instruments that do not use satellites. A position they contradict is flagged to the watchkeeper, marked on the replay track and kept out of distance and performance figures. Never silently corrected.

AIS gives a position from a public feed. Sealink streams the vessel’s own instruments — speed through water, engines, rudder, autopilot, depth — plus the live ECDIS/radar screens and full replay. Not just where a ship is, but how it’s handled.

The edge agent downsamples on board and publishes compact snapshots, not every raw sentence. When the link drops, data buffers ~7 days and drains in order on reconnect.

Live decoded telemetry — and built to prove it. If a feed goes older than 30 seconds every instrument blanks to N/A, and any missing sensor renders greyed-out.

It would, so we check for it. The gateway grades every fix against two instruments that do not use GNSS — the Doppler speed log and the gyro — and marks a position they contradict. A suspect fix is flagged to the watchkeeper, marked on the replay track and left out of distance and performance figures, rather than quietly inflating them. Nothing is auto-corrected: substituting a position would be far more dangerous than showing a doubtful one and saying so.

Every crossing is timed and positioned from the vessel’s own track, and the boundary follows the IMO definition — including the cut at the Dardanelles, so a ship bound for the Black Sea leaves the area at Çanakkale. Add the change-over time and tank quantities and you get the MARPOL Annex VI reg.14.6 record as a PDF. It is a management record: the statutory entry stays in the ship’s own Annex VI Record Book.

The VDR is for formal casualty investigation — slow, proprietary, per-incident. Playback lets any shore user reconstruct a passage in seconds from stored history. It complements the VDR, not replaces its legal role.

Telemetry lands in your time-series backend, and every per-vessel endpoint is authenticated and scoped to your organisation, fleet and vessel. The data is yours.

One mini PC joins the existing NMEA network read-side and decodes the multicast feed — it never writes to navigation systems. A listener, not an actor.
